Chances of Bioeconomy

Conflict zones between food first, growth and transformation

Picture
"The transformation of society in an age without oil and fossil fuels is more than a mere matter of the industry changing its carbon material suppliers. Nature and the environment, food and land management are equally affected. This inevitably leads to conflicting objectives. But how these can be controlled and who will be involved in the negotiation process, and when and how, is still unclear." (Dr. Steffi Ober)

The event examined bioeconomy as an industrial strategy for the post-fossil fuel era. In this process, the focus was on questions about existing conflicts between bio-based economic growth and a necessary economic transformation. During the panel discussion, ethical issues, the governance of research policy, the wealth gap, the availability of basic commodities and the related problems were addressed by critical scientists, representatives of civil society and small farmers from the Global South.
