With citizens for citizens The ideas and methods of the Bürgeruni come from the English "Citizens University", which was founded in 2010 and has since successfully established itself in several cities. Citizens University wants to transfer this successful model to Germany. In our busy, work-oriented life we often do not have the time or the opportunity to learn many important skills that can help us everyday. We are often left to our own devices in emergencies or in problematic situations or have to wait for professional assistance, although a neighbor could easily have helped. The Citizens University wants to give all citizens the opportunity and incentive to learn these practical skills easily and in cooperation with their neighbors. During courses at the Citizens University, participants can make new acquaintances who can be counted on whenever things get dicey – or if they just want to borrow some sugar... Citizens University brings people together so that they can learn – from and with each other – the small, practical things that make life easier. Whether it's first-aid techniques, strategies for job hunting, or the basics for a budding football coach. (Text and photo: Tobias Stapf) nextlearning has helped shape the curriculum and workshop structures at the Citizens University.
