The aim of the CONNEXXIONS U40 workshop was to strengthen the professional capacity of young experts in the field of culture and development. Building on the work of the U40 Network “Cultural Diversity 2030” – a network of young professionals from all over the world, united in the passion to promote cultural diversity through the means of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. During the workshop personal networking was encouraged among all participants, coming mainly from Egypt and Tunisia as well as other Arab countries, from Southern Africa, South and North America, Europe as well as Asia.

The first day, was the day of the 2005 Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions which was briefly introduced. During the breakaway sessions participants discussed culture resources and shared lessons learned from their own working experiences and own contexts. The second day was all about Networks and Networking. Examples of local, national, regional and trans-regional networks were presented. The BarCamp methodology for participatory workshop-events left open space for content of the participants. A public exchange session on cultural initiatives from Alexandria concluded the second day. During the last day results and discovered synergies were reviewed, as for example commonalities among the Tunisian and Egyptian situation of artists and the freedom of cultural expressions. Knowledge and action was connected through a methodological approach which was co-developed and implemented by nextlearning.
