Different approaches to tackling unemployment in Europe

The Trialogue on "Different economic approaches in conversation" was initiated by the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA Governance Platform. The aim is to bring relevant initiatives "into a substantive communication with each other and thus encourage both the pluralization of scientific methods in teaching, as well as the need for science to better address political challenges and practical issues in the longer term. We are looking for new answers to the legitimacy crisis of economic policy advice, which has been obvious since 2008.

This will be addressed by the representatives of different disciplines while formulating practical suggestions for overcoming unemployment in Europe. How would they proceed according to specific theoretical approach of their field? Representatives from disciplines such as politics, the business sector, civil society organizations and the media will participate in the Trialogue. In the argumentative debate on this issue, the respective theoretical foundations and the implications of the different approaches will be delineated and discussed, as will the possibilities and difficulties of policy implementation. Moreover, it will address the fact that any economic theory or policy regarding unemployment must address solutions to other economic, social and cultural matters. The issue of unemployment is indeed extremely wide-ranging.
